Acupunture.
Acupuncture treatment can be traced as far back as the Stone Age, when stone knives and other sharp-edged tools were invented to meet the needs of production. These instruments were used also to relieve pains and diseases, and were known by the ancients as „bian“ means using stone to treat disease. It may reprresent the most primitive acupuncture method. With the countinuous development of production, the „bian“ stones were replaced by „needles“ made of bone or bamboo. In the (China) Shang Dynasty (c.16th-11th century B.C.) bronze casting tecnique was developed and it become posible to make bronze needles. To use of metal for needles was highly significant in the development of treatment by acupuncture. The conduction phenomenon produced while needling led in time to the discovery of the channels system. Through long term practice, acupuncture eventually become important means for treating diseases.
Acupuncture, which originated in China, is a way of adjusting the body's „life energy“ (chi) flow. It involves the insertion of fine needles into carefully selected acupuncture points along the meridians (chanels system) of the body. Points are selected on the basis of pulse and tongue diagnosis, observation and questioning. The points affect the meridian system. Each meridian has a specific effect on a specific body system or organ of the body. Needles are inserted on the points and then manipulated, either by twirling or by gentle pumping action. This remuves blockages or stimulate energy flow. Stagnant energy can be dispersed and the whole energy flow regulated. Acupuncture can be used to relieve symptoms as well as to promote general health and well-being.
